Lukaku could win Europe’s top goalscoring prize
Lukaku is the Premier League’s top goalscorer with 21 goals, but has to beat some of the greatest footballers to become the first ever Everton player to win the Europe’s Golden Shoe.
Everton’s 23-year-old has been hitting the headlines the last few weeks after refusing to sign a contact with Everton, The Belgian has scored 21 times for Everton in the Premier League this season.
He can still contest the best goalscorer this year as he has a better record this season then Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alexandre Lacazette.
But Messi is still ahead of the European chart with 25 goals and does not look to be stopping at that.
Messi has scored 10 goals in the last 8 La Liga games.
Players in the top European Leagues get two points each goal they score, giving Lukaku 42 points at the moment.
Lukaku is in six place for the Golden Boot and is tied with Lewandowski, Dzeko and Suarez who are all on 21 goals or 42 points each.
Messi has not won the Golden Boot since 2012/13 when he scored 46 goals, Everton’s hot striker is hot on the heals of Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Cologne’s Anthony Modeste who are both on 22 goals or 44 points each.
Sporting Lisbon’s Bas Dost 24 goals or 48 points and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 23 goals or 46 points are both second and third.
PSG’s Cavani is in 10th place with scoring 27 goals more than anyone in Europe . his goals tally at 1.5 points each giving him only 40.5 points
With all the above being said Lukaku is in with a shoot-out with the best players in the world to top the Golden Boot Chart, the last time a Everton player was given a goalscoring award was in 1967/68
Lukaku could become the first Everton player to win a Premier League Golden Boot award with Harry Kane sidelined with a ankle injury with scoring 19 goals , Sanchez with 18 and Costa on 17 goals but it is all still to play for.
